Allow the use of a Hierchy without an OLAP Cube

in Wouldn't it be nice if...

Much of my date is hierarchical (i.e. Product Type ---> Product Line ---> Item number) but unless I go through the expense of hiring a SQL guru to build an ETL and Cube of my source data, Tableau only lets you see all this data without a "+" sign to collapse and rollup.

Why not provide a way, to say drage a field in the Column bar over the prior one to imply it is indented and thus allow collapsing??

QlikTech has no problem automatically finding out the relationships of data, so I know this is possible.

The ability to define custom hierarchies is one of my top desires, and Tableau would be tremendously enhanced with it.

We can already do this with Dates, so the underlying mechanisms for hierarchy handling appear to be in place.
